Notes on photography, long walks, and small experiments.
Carrying less on a long day out
After a few trips where the bag mattered more than the pictures, I went back to a single
body and one lens. Fewer choices on the trail turns out to be the whole point — the walk stops
being an equipment problem and goes back to being a walk.
What stayed in the bag:
One 35mm lens, no filters
Two spare batteries, both charged the night before
A notebook, because the phone is a poor place to keep a thought
Coastal light, early
The good half hour arrives before the forecast says it will. Getting there in the dark and
waiting is unglamorous and works every single time. Nothing else in this hobby has such a
reliable return on simply showing up.
A quieter reading list
Trimmed the feed reader from eighty sources down to nine. The things I actually finished
reading this year came from about that many places anyway, so the rest was mostly the pleasant
illusion of keeping up.
